RESEARCH STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Meet Jobelle Bruno

This week, I’m happy to introduce Jobelle Bruno, who has just completed her PhD at Louisiana State University 🎉🎉

Jobelle’s interest in plant pathology came from growing up in a developing country where agriculture is important for people's livelihoods. Having intimate knowledge of the importance of protecting crops from disease, Jobelle was driven by a desire to find solutions to address these challenges and contribute to achieving sustainable agriculture.

Jobelle’s PhD research project focused on investigating the mechanisms of seed-priming materials as elicitors of defence response in rice against bacterial panicle blight (BPB) and sheath blight (ShB). She also characterised the biology and virulence mechanism of the Gram-negative bacterium, Burkholderia glumae, the causal agent of BPB.

Jobelle has an impressive publication record and is incredibly proud to share her findings with the scientific community through publications in different journals like Plant Disease and PLOS Pathogens.

Enjoy every step of your journey

Jobelle Bruno

Jobelle’s advice to fellow plant pathologists: “Enjoy every step of your journey and get as much wisdom as you can while at it.”

Now that she has completed her Ph.D., Jobelle’s goal is not merely to secure a position in industry or academia, but to continue pursuing her true passion in research.

You can contact Jobelle via LinkedIn.

THAT’S A WRAP

Before you go: here are 3 ways we can help each other

1) List a scholarship, job, or event in Robigalia — We help you advertise your opportunity or event to a global network of plant pathologists for free.

2) Book a coaching call with me — Whether it’s career advice, assistance with an application or general advice, you can check my schedule to book in some time with me.

3) Support Robigalia - You can support the ongoing production and distribution of the Robigalia newsletter through Patreon.

See you next Monday

P.S. Why Robigalia? The name originates from the Ancient Roman festival dedicated to crop protection. You can read all about the history here:
